영화로 영어 공부하기
유튜브에 올라와 있는 영어 영화 쉐도잉 자료를 보면서 받아쓰기하고 모르는 단어, 표현들을 정리하며 영어 공부를 시작했다. 내가 가장 좋아하는 영화라고도 할 수 있는 The Devil Wears Prada 악마는 프라다를 입는다로 시작.
영화 시작부터 day 01
Andy: Hi, I have an appointment with Emily Chartlon?
Emily: Andrea Sachs?
A: Yes.
E: Great. Human Resources certainly has an odd sense of humor. Follow me. Okay, so I was Miranda’s second assistant. But her first assistant recently got promoted, so now I’m the first.
A: Oh, and you’re replacing yourself.
E: Well, I am trying. Miranda sacked the last two girls after only a few weeks. We need to find someone who can survive here. Do you understand?
- sack 해고하다.
A: Yeah. Of course. Who’s Miranda?
E: Oh my god. I will pretend you did not just ask me that. She’s the editor of chief of Runway. Not to mention a legend. 이런. 방금 물어본 건 안 들은 걸로 할게요. 그녀는 런웨이의 편집장이자 (패션계의) 전설이라는 건 말할 것도 없고요. You work a year for her, and you can get a job at any magazine you want. A million girls would kill for this job.
- Not to mention ~은 말할 것도 없고, 물론이고.
A: It sounds like a great opportunity. I’d love to be considered.
E: Andrea, Runway is a fashion magazine. So an interest in fashion is crucial.
- crucial 중대한, 결정적인.
A: What makes you think I’m not interested in fashion?
Nigel: She’s not supposed to be here until 9:00.
E: Her driver just text messaged, and her facialist ruptured a disk.
- rupture 파열되다.
Miranda: I don’t understand why It’s so difficult to confirm an appointment.
E: I know. I’m so sorry, Miranda. I actually did confirm..
M: Details of your incompetence do not interest me. Tell Simone I’m not going to approve that girl that she sent me for the Brazilian layout. I asked for clean, athletic, smiling. She sent me dirty, tired and paunchy. And RSVP yes to the Michael Kors party. I want the driver to drop me off at 9:30 and pick me up at 9:45 sharp. Call Natalie at Glorious Foods, tell her no for the 40th time. 나탈리한테 전화해서 이건 정말 아니라고 해. No, I don’t want dacquoise. I want tortes filled with warm rhubarb compote.
- incompetence (업무, 과제 등에 대한) 무능(기술 부족).
- paunchy 배가 불뚝하게 나온.
- RSVP 회신에 응답하다
- compote 콤폿(설탕에 졸여 차게 식힌 과일 디저트)
이렇게 유튜브 영어똑띠 영상 기준으로 9분까지의 내용을 공부, 연습했다. 총 6편으로의 구성되어 있다. 시간 될 때마다 하자.
